My Battle with Acne

First Attempt

my battle with acne
Second Attempt

Ever since I started secondary school I've suffered with acne. Being constantly on and off antibiotics and various types of 'the pill' to control it, they started causing havoc with my hormones and skin. When all my tablets were changed again recently because it's 'bad for me too be taking the same ones for too long', even if they were still working, I decided to stop taking them all together. My skin went crazy with oil and my hormones gave me massive mood swings when they were changed, and I'd had enough. At that time I had no acne so came off all my tablets.

However, my acne has made a very painful reappearance. I'm lucky as it doesn't affect my face much at all, I'm able to control it on my face by a good skin care routine. It's my back, neck and chest that suffers. I have what many call 'backcne', but it's pretty bad, causing a lot of pain at times. This causes me to cover this area quite highly, I hardly ever wear anything that shows my back or any chest.

I've been using a clearasil cleanser and salt scrubbing my back to try and battle this acne. It really wasn't working. I've decided the problem is within my body, rather than on the outside. So I've taken up the following routine:

  • Multivitamins - For general good health to help me fight the infections.
  • Cod Liver Oil - To promote healthy skin.
  • Echinacea - To purify the blood, hopefully helping to filter out the infections.
  • Aloe Vera Gel - Application to help sooth when painful.

I'll let you all know how I get on with this, but would love to hear any acne solutions you have! Any advice or remedies please? Lots people have suffered with acne at some point, it can affect anyone and has no connection to 'how clean you are'.

Becca :) x

Disclosure: I brought all the products featured myself to try and help my acne.

  1. my best friend suffered from this same problem when she we were teenagers and she used to to use tea tree oil and witch hazel. She would just use a cotton pad to rub it over the problem areas. could be worth a shot?

also, if it's suddenly come back, do you reckon it might be a reaction to something? anti-histamines might be worth a shot if it is. it might be worth booking a gp appointment and see what he recommends. Another one of my friends did this a few years ago and was put on a pill which cleared her up really quickly!

hope you get it sorted soon and that it stays away this time; everyone has suffered at some point so we all know how horrid it can be. take care, becca :) xxx

  4. I have this problem too. Been to the doctor and dermatologist several times. I've had it since I was about 10, still waiting to 'grow out of it'. Never found anything except the pill and antibiotics that works for me, I ought to come off them but my skin is so bad without them that I'm scared to! Also worry about using new skin products in case I react to them. Don't want to be on pills forever! :(

This might post twice, I wrote my comment and when I went to log in Blogger deleted it. :(

  5. Ah great post and can't wait to see how it turns out for you <3 I think acne is always seen as something 'dirty' in people who don't have its eyes and its horrible to be teased :( xx

    1. I've never had it on my face so never been teased for it, but I know many people do get stuff for having acne. it's nothing to do with how clean you are, you can be 100% squeaky clean and still get acne. there is a really bad stigma around it :/

  6. I have suffered with acne for as long as I can remember. I've probably tired and tested everything possible sadly I only get it on my face sometimes it can be so bad I won't leave the house as I don't like people looking at it. This might seem odd but the less I do to my face the less spots I have if I start doing what most people do as a normal skin routine it send my skin out of control. I just use gce

    1. I do think with acne less is better when it comes to skincare routines, I try to do very little to my back. Sorry to hear you suffer with it too :(

  8. I used to have very bad backne (like you my face wasn't that affected)
But I went on various tablets and creams (which made my skin very red) and eventually I asked to go on a tablet that worked for my sister called Roaccutane and I know this sounds OTT but it literally changed my life, I have no spots on my back anymore or anywhere else, I get the occasional one on my face but they go after a couple of days, it's pretty strong stuff but totally worth it. When I was on it my hair never got greasy and neither did my skin, I used to have really oily skin before I took it and now I don't which is great :)
I noticed that I had scars on my back and so I was given a gel to get rid of them and it actually worked which surprised me
There were also no side effects which was a total bonus, I realise it totally sounds like I'm trying to advertise it or something but it is seriously amazing and I stopped taking the tablets over a year ago and still have no spots on my back so it works long term
Hope this helped, I love your blog :)
