Todays post is coming from the fabulous Katie who blogs at Gold Dust.
I think EVERY girl should own a denim jacket. It's a staple piece and never gets old. The jacket is so easy to throw on over a maxi dress or to give you an extra layer when it comes in cooler on a Summer evening. You can dress it up with a gorgeous scarf and lots of bling or dress it down with a plain tee. It is just so versatile!
Last Summer I knew it was time to invest in a new jacket, after much deliberation I went with a cropped jacket with 3/4 sleeves. I tend to roll up my sleeves anyway so this seemed like the perfect choice for me. I'm also tiny so a cropped jacket looks full length on me!
I wore it to death last Summer and it retired during the Winter in the back of my wardrobe. We had a little sunshine earlier this year which was the perfect time for my jacket to come out of retirement. I dragged it out, but for so reason I was a little disappointed to see how boring it looked. This was around the time Topshop, Miss S, H&M etc. has just started really getting into their S/S collections and there was so many gorgeous denim jackets about mine just kinda let me down. So I took matters into my own hands and brought my jacket up to date.
Bleach, dip dye, studs, sequins and general embellishments seem to be everywhere at the moment, so I thought it using some of these would be a fab way to bring my jacket into 2012. Bleach is unbelievably cheap and so effective on denim and black fabrics in particular. I'm very much against animal testing and have yet to find a animal friendly company that sells fabric dye, so playing with bleach (animal friendly, of course) is my way of DIY'ing fabrics.
I got these studs and some others from Ebay, I think they were literally about £2 inc P&P, they are so effective and so so easy to use. I've been able to embellish a few items in my wardrobe and still have some left to play with!
Hope this has inspired you to get creative and up-cycle some of your older clothes and give them a new lease of life!
